Joel M. Chafin's father was William Thomas Chafin was born 1773 Virginia and died 1860 Newton County, Georgia.
His mother was Rachel Elizabeth "Zechie" Smith born 1770 Georgia and died 1848 Newton County, Georgia.
They married 1800. No marriage liscense has been found.
Joel M. Chafin died during the Civil War. He broke his ankle and probably died from the infection.
There is no tombstone to mark his grave.
