Born in Connecticut, graduated from Yale University in 1839. Became an Episcopal Minister and educator, starting in St. Louis and Palmyra, Missouri before settling in Quincy, Illinois. He was pastor of the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church for 35 years, and was also principal of Quincy High School during that time. Married Mary Frances McDonald in Palmyra, Mo. Had one son, Rev. William Corbyn from an earlier marriage, and one daughter, Edith Corbyn who lived in Quincy until after her parent's death.
