Lois Borah, age 78, of Huron, SD, died Thursday, August 5, 2010, at SunQuest Healthcare Center in Huron. Her funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 10, 2010, at First Presbyteraian Church with burial at Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, August 9, from 1-8 p.m. at Welter Funeral Home or Tuesday morning one hour prior to the service.

Lois Borah, daughter of J. Carroll and Lenora (Meyer) Borah, was born on December 14, 1931, in Huron, SD. At the age of 2, Lois suffered an encephalitis attack which left her physically handicapped. Despite this affliction, she attended Wilson Elementary School and graduated from Huron High School. She lived her entire life in the family home on Third Street in Huron. Many of her childhood memories were spent on the plains of South Dakota helping her mother while her father and older brother, Carmon, built and improved many of the township roads surrounding Huron. Both Lois and her sister, Norma, were pressed into helping with the "road-staking" on more than one occasion. After high school Lois worked in child-care for a number of years. In her family, Lois was the "go to" person when any question arose about the old days. Special times were those spent with "Aunt Dolly" - Maybelle Garrity - in Mesa, Arizona and at the cabin on Lake Byron. She was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church.

Lois is survived by her sister, Norma (Ralph) Marking of Eau Claire, WI; 3 nieces, Janice (John) Fathke of Avon, SD, Maureen (James) Eichstadt of DeForest, WI, and Sara Fischer of Minneapolis, MN; 1 nephew, Jay (Joyce) Borah of Huron, SD; and many great, and great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother and sister-in-law, Carmon and Olga (Bergquist) Borah; her brother, Howard Borah; and a nephew, Chad Marking.

Lois would like to thank a host of kind and willing caregivers including: Debbie Lodmel who was a special long-time caregiver and close friend; and a sister-in-law, Olga, who was more of a sister than a sister-in-law. Thank you, Lois, for the memories. Until we meet again, you will be loved and missed.
