Biography submitted July 29, 2014:

"William Lock was born in Durham, England, County England, May 8th, 1823. He died August 28, 1901, aged 78 years, 3 month and 20 days. He came to America in 1845. His first abode was in Washington County, Pa. From there he moved to Fairfield on March 14, 1851 then to Bluepoint in the same year, settling on the farm northeast of Packwood where he spent the rest of his life. He was married to Mary Boag on July 22, 1843. Fifty-eight years of life they lived together in happy union as husband and wife. To this union were born five children, John and Benjamin of Taylor County, Mrs. Maggie Chandler of Sherman, Kansas, Mrs. Jane Wolf who resides northwest of Packwood, and Hester Lock who made her home with her father. He had also 19 grand-children and 19 great grandchildren. All of his own children but one, and the companion of his life were by his bedside when he passed away."

"PACKWOOD - Another familiar face will be seen no more, another pioneer has gone to his eternal rest. William Lock, by birth an Englishman, but for over fifty years a citizen of the United States, died after a long illness from heart trouble Aug. 28. . . . .Funeral services at the home where he lived more than fifty years. The remains of the good old man were laid to rest in the Blue Point cemetery."

LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT OF WILLIAM LOCK, DECEASED
Filed Sept. 28th, 1901
Probated Oct. 28th, 1901
In the name of God amen, know all men by these presents that I William Lock, of the county of Jefferson and State of Iowa being of sound mind and memory, and of the age of 76 years do hearby make and proclaim this is my last will and testament.
1st I direct that all my debts and funeral expenses shall be paid
2nd to my wife Mary Lock I give and bequeath all the personal property that I may have after paying my just debts and funeral expenses as hereinbefore stated
3rd to pay the bequest of five dollars to my son John B. Lock, as is his portion of my Estate in full
4th I also give and bequeath to my wife Mary Lock during her natural life the use and control of all the real Estate I may own at the time of my death which land is now discribed as follows the west fractional half of the north west quarter of Section (7) township seventy-three (73) north of range ten (10) west and containing ninety-six and 72 one hundredth acres in Jefferson County and state of Iowa this tract of land to be divided as follows,
1st Mary Hester Lock is to have th North one fourth of said land,
2nd Jane B. Wolf, to have the next one fourth of said land,
3rd Benjamin B. Lock, to have the next one fourth of said land,
4th Margaret A. Chandler, to have the next one fourth of said land this land is to be divided East and West, also a tract of land lying in Keokuk County in township Seventy-four (74) north of range ten (10) west containing twenty acres (20) this tract of land to be divided as follows, first Mary Hester Lock is to have the southwest five acres of said tract,
Second Jane E. Wolf is to have the Northwest five acres of said tract, Third Benjamin B. Lock is to have the Southeast five acres of said tract, Fourth Margaret A. Chandler is to have the Northeast five acres of said tract. Each of these tracts to be twenty rods north and south and each to be forty (40) rods east and west when divided, I also direct that all expenses of settling this my estate, also fifty dollars in cash to each of my two grandsons William A. Lock, and Iredel T. Lock, shall be paid in cash: by Mary Hester Lock, and Jane E. Wolf and Benjamin B. Lock and Margaret J. Chandler, Each one of the above named parties is to pay one fourth of the whole amount of expense immediately on the division of this my Estate, and at death of my wife Mary Lock, all personal property remaining of every kind I give and bequeath to my daughter Mary Hester Lock.
I hereby appoint Robert H. Weller, as my Executer of this my Last Will and Testament this 24th day of August 1899.

Weller, both of Jefferson County and State of Iowa hereby certify that we saw William Lock, sign the foregoing Instrument and that he stated after hearing it read over that it was his last will and testament and that he asked us to sign our names as witnesses, thereto this twenty-fourth day of August 1899.
