Mrs. Annie Elizabeth Custer, 95, believed to be the county's oldest resident, died suddenly at her home in the Mount Cecil community at noon Friday.

She had been in her usual state of health which was considered splendid for her advanced years and had eaten a good breakfast at her usual hour the day of her death. Until a few years ago she did all her own house work. Two or three years ago she underwent a successful operation for cataract.

The widow of the late John C. Custer who died 30 years ago, she was born in Morgan county June 3, 1861 a daughter of the late Jacob and Elizabeth Baxley Ambrose.

She was a member of the Methodist Church. Surviving are eight children -- Mrs. Mae Ware, Mrs. Jessie Folk, Mrs. Rilla Mellert, Washington, D.C.; Mrs. Dora Huhn, Arlington, Va.; A. Boyd Custer, Herndon, Va.; Ralph Custer, Alexandria, Va.; Calvin Custer and Mrs. Ray R. Rice, Berkeley Springs; 30 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

The body was removed to the Hunter Funeral Home here, where services were held Sunday at 3p.m. with her pastor, the Rev. Henry H. Rowland, officiating. Burial was in Greenway Cemetery here.
