SALISBURY -- May Hatton Truitt, 95, of Salisbury died Friday, April 30, 2004, at Anchorage Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born Jan. 7, 1909, in Mardela Springs, she was a daughter of the late Thomas James and May Hatton Truitt. The family moved to Salisbury when she was 9 months old, and lived here until she went to college in Baltimore. She was a graduate of Wesley College in Dover and received a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Maryland College Park and a juris doctor degree from the University of Maryland School of Law in Baltimore. Years later she received a master of arts degree in library science from Columbia University in New York City.

She practiced law in Salisbury for 18 years, and for 20 years she was a librarian at Salisbury University, where she retired. She was a lifelong member of Asbury United Methodist Church and a member of the Samuel Chase Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution for more than 50 years.

Travel was her hobby and she visited almost every country in the world. She went to Antarctica and four places in the Artic, and all the large islands in the Pacific and Indian oceans.

She is survived by a niece, Jane Henderson, and a nephew, Robert Beach, both of Florida; and two grandnieces, Patty Roberts and Cathy Louviere.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Mrs. Jane Beach, Mrs. Ruth van Hulsteyn and Mrs. Helen Lawson.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday at Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury at 11 a.m., with a calling one hour prior. The Rev. Glen Catley will officiate.
