BREWER Dr. E. Eugene Barnett, 62, died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2000, at his home in Brewer after a long illness. He was a native of the Palmetto community and a longtime resident of Brewer. He was a retired Baptist minister and a member of Brewer Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Shannon High School and Blue Mountain College, and received his master’s degree and doctorate from Luther Rice Seminary. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1959. He was licensed and ordained to the ministry by Brewer Baptist Church in 1969, and served as pastor at Valley Grove Baptist Church in Pontotoc County, Harmony Baptist Church in Walnut, North Winona Baptist Church in Winona and Camp Ground Baptist Church in Water Valley.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today in the Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with the Rev. James White officiating. Burial will be in the Brewer Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Wilodyne Schumpert Barnett of Brewer; two daughters, Pam Golding and her husband, Talmadge, of Winona, and Stephanie Barnett of Brewer; two sons, Richard E. Barnett and his wife, Lisa, of Winona, and Donald Barnett and his wife, Pam, of Brewer; three sisters, Kathy Barnett of Tupelo, Sybil Stepp of Chesterville and Winnie Wilcox of Jacksonville, Fla.; two grandsons; four granddaughters.

Pallbearers will be Wiley Miller, Clarence Tidwell, Joe Minga, Joe Dye, Donny Greer and Robert Allen Godfrey
