Services were held here today for Mrs. Flora Ewing Youmans, 87, a former resident of New Castle, who died Friday in Mt. Vista Nursing Home at Wheat Ridge. Rites were to be at 2 PM, in the Congregarional Church with burial in Highland Cemetery.
Mrs. Youmans was the widow of Myron Lecroix Youmans, a New Castle merchant for 28 years. He originally managed a mining company store, later operated his own establishment. The Youmans moved to Denver in 1942. During their residence in New Castle, Mrs. Youmans was active in the Congregational Church, Erika Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, the New Castle Reading Club, and local and state Parent Teacher Assns.
Mrs. Youmans was born in Kansas Territory on Dec. 27, 1878. At the age of one year, she accompanied her parents to Boulder County, traveling by covered wagon. She attended schools there and the State Normal school at Greeley. Later she taught school near Boulder and at Erie, Colo. The Youmans were married at the Ewing home, seven miles east of Boulder, on Nov. 28, 1907. Mr. Youmans died Feb. 22, 1957.
Survivors are four sons, John of Pleasant Hill, Calif. Arthur of Vienna, Va., Courtnery of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Howard of Arvada; three daughters, Mrs. Ruth D. Reace of Fowler, Mrs. Mary E. Hudson of Grand Junction and Mrs. Margaret L. Mason, of Medford, Oregon, twenty grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
