George Douglas Hill was July 12, 1942, to the marriage of William W. Hill and Della B. Hill (nΓ©e 𝑩𝒐𝒐𝒏𝒆) in Pollocksville, Jones County, North Carolina. George graduated from the Jones County High School of Pollocksville, NC. He went on to A&T College in Greensboro, NC (now the North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University) where he received his B.S. degree in 1964. His interest in animals led Dr. Hill to pursue a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Tuskegee University, Tuskegee, Alabama, from which he graduated in 1973.

Dr. Hill developed a keen interest in business during his college tenure. Hill worked for the A&P Company in the dairy department in Philadelphia, PA, where he also started a snow cone business. Later he founded Hill's Brothers Mop Company in Pollocksville, NC, and entered into minority ventures with nationally recognized companies in creating job opportunities for Jones County residents. From there, George Hill entered veterinary medicine school at Tuskegee Institute, Tuskegee, AL. Dr. Hill used his business ventures as a means of furthering his humanitarian pursuits. George Hill was the owner of Aide-More Animal Hospital; GDH Company, providing quality affordable housing to residents of Salisbury; ABU Grooming Salon, now operating as Dogs by Day; the Pet Food Store in Salisbury, where he worked with his wife Kathy S. Hill; and a Trustee of Noble & Kelsey Funeral Home, Inc.

A faithful member of First Calvary Baptist Church of Salisbury, NC, Dr. Hill sang in the Men's Choir and served as a former trustee and vice chairman of the Building and Grounds Committee. DI. Hill's span of service to civic and professional groups encompasses many organizations: President-Elect of the Salisbury Rotary Club, Member and Immediate Past President of Phi Beta Sigma Fratemnity, Inc. - Upsilon Beta Sigma Chapter, Rowan. County Planning Board 1989-1991; Salisbury 2000 Strategic Growth Plan Task Force; Life Member of the NAACP; Alumni and Life Member of NC A&T State University of Greensboro, NC and Tuskegee University of Tuskegee, AL; a past President of the Negro Civic League of Rowan County; past Chairman of the UNCF Campaign for Livingstone College of Salisbury, NC spearheading an effort which raised more than $400,000 for that institution; an original member of Health Link for the Heaith Board of Rowan County aimed at decreasing Infant Mortality; former member of the Board of Directors for the Salisbury Rowan Community Service Council; former member of the Board of Directors of the Rowan County YMCA, 1988-1992; and member of the Rowan County Cooperative Extension Advisory Board; Sustaining member of the Central NC Council Boy Scouts of Honorary Member of Ninth and Tenth (Horse) Cavalry Association of Buffalo Soldiers.

Dr. Hill has received many awards which include the Tuskegee University School of Veterinary Medicine 25-year Award, 1972 Pfizer Veterinary Scholarship Recipient-Tuskegee Universe, 1994 NAACP Humanitarian Award, 1993 Martin Luther King Award, State 4H Alumni Award, 4H Alumni Recognition Award, President's Club Award Livingstone College, Meritorious Service Award United Negro College Fund, Laymen League First Calvary Baptist Church, Salisbury, NC. Even as an entrepreneur, Dr. Hill also founded Pet Drinks, Inc. which developed and marketed Pet Drink for pets, once described as the Gatorade for animals.

Dr. George D. Hill served with distinction in the United States Army from 1973-1975. Enlisted as a Vietnam Era military officer, Hill was assigned to the Ft. McClellan, AL Army Depot as a Captain of the Veterinarian Corps from which he was honorably discharged.

Dr. Hill is preceded in death by his father. William W. Hill and a brother, Johnny Hill.

Dr. George Hill entered eternal rest on September 14th, 2002, and was welcomed into the loving arms of our Lord, Jesus Christ.

Dr. Hill is survived by his loving wife Mrs. Kathy S. Hill and son Gregory Lemar Hill of the home, Dr. S. Georgette D. Hill of Raleigh, NC, Ms. Gloria D. Hill of Virginia Beach, VA, stepsons - Gerard Giles of Hickory, NC and Anthony Giles of Charlotte, NC, his mother Mrs. Della B. Hill of Pollocksville, NC, a brother William Hill (and wife Diane) of Newport News, VA, sister Bonnie Wilkins (and husband Richard) of South Boston, VA, sister-in-law Carol Hill of Pollocksville, NC, cousin reared in the home as a brother-David Boone (and wife Deborah) of Columbia, SC, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and other relatives, as well as his dutiful in-laws. Elder and Mrs. Otis Smith of Hickory, NC, and many other relatives and friends.

As a veterinarian, Dr. Hill pioneered several techniques of surgery on animals, including an ear hematoma drainage system that has proved effective in dogs. He was also the creator and owner of Pet Drinks, a liquid nutritional supplement for dogs or cats.
