L.O. "Vet" Austin was born June 12, 1905, in Delphos, and lived in Salina most of his life. He died at Asbury Hospital from an apparent heart attack.

Mr. Austin was the owner and operator of Austin's Food Market, formerly located at 129 S. 8th, from 1936 to 1969. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Salina Blue Lodge No. 60, the Salina Consistory and the Isis Shrine.

Survivors included his wife, Martha; two daughters, Mrs. Wes McMillen and Mrs. Jerry Pettle; a brother, James B. Austin; a sister, Mrs. Glen Nothern; and three grandchildren.
