Judge Brooking dies

Charles M. Brooking, a former Scott County judge who served from 1962 to 1974, died at his home Saturday night of apparent heart attack, Brooking was 68 years old.
Funeral services for Brooking were held Tuesday morning at 10:30 at Great Crossing Baptist Church with a large turn-out of the community despite the inclement weather.
"Judge Brooking was a great asset to this community," commented present County Judge Charlie Sutton. "He was well liked and respected.
Judge Sutton and Judge Brooking had run against one another in the race for county judge. "I continued to call him Judge and he would offer me advice when requested," Sutton added. "He was a fine person and a friend."
Mayor Warren Powers shared Sutton's sentiments regarding Brooking. "We have lost a valuable member of the community in Judge Brooking," Powers said."He did much to better this entire community."
A native of Scott County, Brooking was active in several areas of interest to the community.
He served as a member of the Scott County School Board, was past president of the Central Chapter of the Kentucky Council of Crime and Delinquency, and acted as past president of the Georgetown Kiwanis Club.
He was a member, as well as past president of the Stamping Ground Ruritan Club, a member of Scott County Lodge No 702 F&AM and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows.
Brooking also served as past president of the Scott County Farm Bureau, and was past chairman of the State Social Service Advisory Committee and the Community Development Committee.
Of late, Brooking was very involved with the local organization for retarded citizens. He was director of the board for the Scott County Association for Retarded Citizens, and was a director of the Kentucky Association for Retarded Citizens.

Charles M. Brooking,69, Georgetown, former Scott County judge, died suddenly Saturday night at his home from an apparent heart attack.
He was a native of Scott County, son of the late Zach Henry Brooking. He was a member and deacon of the Great Crossing Baptist Church, past chairman of the board of directors of Baptist Community in Lexington.
He served as Scott County judge from 1962 through 1974, and was presently serving as chairman of the board of Scott County Association for Retarded Citizens.
He was a former president of Georgetown Kiwanis Club and of Stamping Ground Ruritan Club. He was past president of Scott County Farm Bureau and of Central Kentucky Chapter, Kentucky Council of Crime and Delinquency. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge at Stamping Ground.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Nora B. Ireland; two daughters, Mrs. Ann Robb, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. and Mrs. Ronald (Patsy)Rich, Georgetown: two granddaughters, Misses Lee Murray and Susan Duvall Rich, both of Georgetown: two sisters, Mrs. Sallie Gibson, Georgetown, and Mrs. Vivian Nave, Georgetown; a brother, Z.H.Brooking, Georgetown; two nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at Great Crossing Baptist Church by Dr. C.R. Daley and Rev.Henry Walters. Burial was in Masonic Cemetery,Stamping Ground, with Masonic rites.
Pallbearers were David Knox, Robert G. Glass, George Lockard, Glenn Anderson, Jimmy Richardson, Ralph Ed Davis, and Jack Lewis. Honorary bearers were William Penn, Harry Simon, Tommy Hukill, George Adams, J.A.Cottrell, Ernest Courtney, Buddy Richardson, and Lewis Barber.
