Ida May Smith was born on the 8th of July, 1878, in Mount Vernon, the daughter of Charles W. Ida had twin boys, Albert Scott 1895-1918 and Talbert Scott 1895-1971 from her previous marriage to ________ Scott. John Frederick & Ida May Bumpus had eight children; Charles Warner "Charlie" Bumpus 1899-1980, married Kathern I. "Katie" Arquilla 1912-2007; Salathiel 1900-1994, 1st married Mary Katheryn Fowls 1906-1978, 2nd married Martha Fontana [Olvey] Mills 1902-1995; John Frederick Jr. Bumpus 1901-1970, married Margaret Forest Jones 1915-2001; Olive Del Bumpus 1903-1927, married Dwight Harris and died at the age of 24 years; Mary Malinda Bumpus 1905-1997, 1st married George Leo Wright 1902-1970, 2nd married Lawrence Berwick Westermann 1900-1984; William Stevenson "Bill" Bumpus 1905-1990, married Goldie M. Atkinson 1905-1995; Floyd F. Bumpus 1916-2003, married Betty A. "Deaths - John Frederick Bumpus Sr., 75, 116 E. Chestnut street, died at 2:30 a.m. today in Mercy hospital. Mr. Bumpus had been in ill health for sometime but his death was unexpected. He was a retired foreman for the Cooper-Bessemer corporation, where he was employed for 50 years, and was a life-long member of the Vine St. Church of Christ, Odd Fellows lodge and the Twenty Year club of Cooper-Bessemer. Surviving are five sons, Sheriff Salathiel Bumpus, Charles Bumpus and William Bumpus all of Mount Vernon, John F. Bumpus, Jr., of Orange, Texas, and Floyd Bumpus of Warren; two daughters, Mrs. Irene Dean of Mount Vernon and Mrs. Mary Wright of Odessa, Texas; one step-son, Talbert Scott of Mount Vernon; thirteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. W. R. Jones of Ravenna. Friends may call at the Miller funeral home after noon Saturday until 1 p.m. Monday when the body will be removed to the Vine St. Church of Christ for services at 2 p.m. with the Rev. O. W.
