Funeral services for Joseph I. James, 80, lifelong Salt Lake City resident, who died Tuesday evening at the home of a daughter, Mrs. George R. Dent, 528 Koneta Ct. following a lingering illness, will be held Saturday at noon at 260 E. South Temple.

Mr. James was born January 28, 1870 in Salt Lake City, a son of Thomas and Elizabeth Newton James. He married Martha Swaner March 26, 1891. She died last January. He was a member of Thirty-first ward, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, for 50 years. Prior to his illness he was engaged in the garage business.

Survivors include four sons and daughters, Mrs. Pearl Dent, Alvin J. James, Mrs. Lucile J. Shewell and Harry B. James, all of Salt Lake City; 24 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; three sisters and a brother, Mrs. Elizabeth J. Cardwell, Mrs. Lilly J. Webber and Mrs. Alice J. Vincent, all of Salt Lake City and Thomas A. James, Rock Springs Wyoming.

Friends may call at the place of funeral Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to time of services. Burial will be in Salt Lake City cemetery.
