Funeral Services for Mrs. Eva Newton, 87, of Brooklyn will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 4, in the Nevenhoven Funeral Home, Brooklyn, Mrs. Newton died Monday morning in Friendship Manor, Grinnell.
Rev. Kalen K. Fristad, Pastor of the Grace United Methodist Church, will officiate. Mrs. Sybil Kelley will be the organist and soloist.
Eva Belle Walford Newton, daughter of David Wilson Walford and Nellie York Walford, was born in Brooklyn July 27, 1901. She received her education in Brooklyn. She was united in marriage to Alvin Newton and they were later divorced. Mrs. Newton lived in Oskaloosa and in Florida as well as Brooklyn.
Mrs. Newton was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, and the UMW. She helped with the Rummage Sale and helped with the congregate meals program in Brooklyn.
Surviving are two sons, Dean of Yuma, Ariz., and Forrest of Davenport; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Mrs. Newton was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, and three sisters.
