Darlene I. Aronson, age 79, of Albert City, Iowa, died on Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at the Pleasant View Home in Albert City.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 6, 2010 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Albert City. Burial will be in the Fairfield Township Cemetery in Albert City. Visitation will be 5-8:00 p.m., Friday, March 5, 2010 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Albert City. The Sliefert Funeral Home of Albert City is in charge of the arrangements.
Darlene Ione Cleveland, the daughter of Oscar and Bertha (Erickson) Cleveland, was born in Westbrook, Minnesota, on March 20, 1930. Darlene was baptized and confirmed at the Rembrandt Lutheran Church in Rembrandt, Iowa. She began her education in Linn Grove, Iowa, and later moved with her family to the Rembrandt area where she graduated from the Rembrandt High School in 1947. Following her high school graduation, Darlene attended a business college in Worthington, Minnesota.
She was united in marriage to (Ivan) Dean Stroup on August 23, 1948, at the Rembrandt Lutheran Church and to this union one son, Dick, was born. Dean died on April 3, 1949. Darlene exchanged marriage vows with Martin Aronson on March 4, 1951, and this couple was blessed with five children: Alan, Tom, Julie, Larry and Sandy. From 1954 until 2006, Darlene and Martin resided on a farm southeast of Albert City where they had been engaged in farming. Darlene had been employed for 16 years as a dietary cook at the Pleasant View Home in Albert City. Family was of paramount importance to Darlene and the greatest joy she experienced in life was being a loving, devoted and nurturing wife, mother and grandmother. She lovingly supported her grandchildren by her attendance at all of their many activities.
Darlene was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church of Albert City and when they were younger, Darlene and Martin had been members of the Young Married Couples group of the church. She also belonged to the Albert City Historical Society, the Happy Hour Club and the Thursday Apron Club. She was a Sunday School teacher and a volunteer reader at AC-T. Darlene will be remembered as an excellent cook and homemaker, a poet, and a collector of unique toy shoes. She and Martin were the recipients of the "Hurricane Award" given to them by AC-T.
