Jewell Dukes, 83, a resident o Yelm since 2005, went home to her Savior on May 25, 2010. She died at home with her family by her side after a short battle with cancer. Born Anna Jewel Bray, the third of four children to Elmer W. and Oma K. (Byrd) Bray on December 6, 1926 in Megargel, Texas. When she was 12 the family moved to Visalia, California and later settled in Freso. There she met and married Cecil Foster. They were married for 25 years and had nine children. After they divorced in 1968 she was married to Charles Dukes until his death in 1997. She held many positions in her lifetime, but none more important to her than that of wife and mother. She enjoyed camping, family gatherings and tending the many plants and flowers that surrounded her home. She enjoyed the annual family reunion when most of her enormous extended famiy would gather. Though she had many hardships in life, she found much more joy and held fast to her faith in Christ. She was a true inspiration and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Besides her husband Charles, she was preceded in death by her sister Louise, her daughters Kitty, Janie and Donna, as well as her son Robert and grandsons William and Gary. She is survived by sons John Foster of Rainier, Tom Foster of Yelm, daughters Sally Beach of Yelm, Tina Kinney of Rochester and Patricia Martin of Yelms, her brother James Bray of Clovis, CA, sister Wanda Hull of Fresno, CA, 23 grandchildren, 43 great grandchilren and 10 great-great grandchidren.
