Rev. Roswell W Caldwell, 88 of Evergreen Village, New Concord, a retired missionary and minister, in New Concord Nursing Center after a long illness.

From 1911 to 1932 he served as a missionary to Egypt. From 1932 to 1953 he was treasurer of United Presbyterian Church board of missions. During his ministry he held pastorates at Moundsville and Wheeling W. Va.

He was born Sept 17, 1885, at Scotch Ridge, a son of Rev John T., and Laura Canfield Caldwell.

Rev. Caldwell graduated from Muskingum College in 1906. Xenia Theological Seminary in 1911. Received his master's degree from Hartford Seminary Foundation in 1932 and received an Honorary Doctor of Divinity Degree from Muskingum College in 1928. He was a member of College Drive United Presbyterian Church and Evergreen club, both of New Concord.

Survivers include two daughters, Mrs. Laurence (Janet) Hall of Denver Colo., and Mrs. H Glenn (Mary) Thompson of Alexandria VA; a sister, Mrs Ralph ( Lois) Harris of Washington D C, and six grandchildren. His wife, Margaret Thompson Giffen Caldwell, died in Oct 1971. Two sisters and a brother are deceased.
