Big Timber - Gladys Aalgaard, 92, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, at Western Manor Health Care Center in Billings. She was born on Feb. 3, 1909, in Aalgaard Sokendal, Norway, to Albert and Gemalia Aalgaard.

The family immigrated to and arrived in America on Aug. 2, 1923 - the day that President Harding died.

Gladys married Thorvald Aalgaard on Feb. 20, 1926 in Big Timber. They were married 54 years.

Mrs. Aalgaard was a member of the Big Timber Lutheran Church, of which her parents were charter members. She was also a member of the Ladies Aid. Gladys was a caregiver to anyone needing her. She enjoyed cooking, baking, making lefsa, koomps and other Norwegian goodies. Family members and friends will always remember her as they cover up with one of the countless quilts or afghans she crocheted or knitted for them.

Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Thorvald, a daughter, Georgia Braaten; a son, Harold; three brothers, Ben, Sam and Art Algard; and three sisters, Gudrun Hoiland, Ruth Hoem and Olga (Tootsie) Perschillo, and three grandsons, Terry Aalgaard, Terry Anderson and Dennis Braaten.

Gladys is survived by two daughters, Agnes Braaten of Billings and Gertrude Anderson of Lodge Grass; two sons, John (Lauretta) Aalgaard of Billings and Thelmer (Patti) Aalgaard of California; and a daughter-in-law, Monica Aalgaard of California; two sisters, Marie Algard of Big Timber, Esther Boe of Lavina; and a brother Hans Algard of Helena; 24 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, at Big Timber Lutheran Church with Pastor Jim Holmlund officiating. Interment will be in Mountain View Cemetery. Friends may call at the Lowry Funeral Home Thursday, Friday, and up until the funeral time Saturday. Lowry Funeral Home arranged the services.
