Elmer Clayton "Pappy" Claxon 90, of South Shore formally of Carter County, went to be with the Lord on Saturday April 2, 2011, surrounded by his family and friends, at the Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
He was born on August 29, 1920, in Carter County a son of the late Wesley and Margaret Stephens Claxon.
Elmer was a member of the Salem Missionary Baptist Church, a retired Carman for CSX Railroad with 30 years of service, a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Carman, a WW II Navy Veteran, a 50 year member of Trimble Lodge 145 F & AM, an avid Musky Fisherman and founding father of the Kentucky Silver Musky Club and a Kentucky Colonel.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday April 5, 2011, at Wright's Funeral Home in Greenup by Brother James L. Stephens. Burial will be in the Kiser-McGinnis Cemetery in Carter County. Graveside military services will be conducted by the Portsmouth Ohio American Legion.
Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Monday, April 4, 2011, at the funeral home with Masonic services being held at 7 p.m. by the Trimble Lodge 145.
