Joshua Ormsby (q.v., Armsby, Armsbury, Omsby, Ormsbe, Ormsbee), s. of John Ormsby and Grace Martin, b. of record Dec. 9, 1672 at Rehoboth, Mass. [Reh. VRs] where he d. intestate May 28, 1715.

Despite variations regarding Joshua's surname in the records, for consistency the surname of "Ormsby" is used regarding him and his descendant family.

On Dec. 22, 1704 of record at Medfield, Mass., Joshua "Omsby" m. "Mehittable" Boyden, dau. of Capt. Jonathan Boyden and Mary Clark, b. of record Jan. 31, 1679/80 at Medfield. Joshua and Mehitable had the four children summarized below, the first at Medfield and the three youngest at Rehoboth, Mass. Arnold in his 1897 published "Vital Record of Rehoboth" either errantly copied or the record he used errantly recorded Joshua's wife at Rehobith as "Rebecca" when multiple documents clearly identify her as Mehitable Boyden:

• i. Mehitable Ormsby, b. of record Oct. 1, 1705 at Medfield, Mass. [Med. VRs], d. in Mar. 1779 at Rehoboth, Mass.; m. Mar. 13, 1728/9 at Rehoboth (by Rev. John Greenwood), Dr. Josiah Fuller, s. of Robert Fuller and Mary Titus (dau. of Silas Titus), b. Nov. 18, 1704 at Rehoboth where he died testate betw. Jan. 3 (will) and Feb. 13, 1753 (invt.) Five children of the family.

• ii. Joshua Ormsby, Jr., b. June 1, 1708 at Rehoboth, Mass., d. Jan. 31, 1793 at Medfield, Mass.; m. Sept. 25, 1733 at Boston, Mass. (by Habijah Savage, JP), Esther Cheney, dau. of Josiah and Hannah Cheney, b. June 29, 1715 at Medfield. She d. Feb. 13, 1777 at Medfield. Eleven children of the family.

• iii. Mary Ormsby, b. Oct. 11, 1712 at Rehoboth; m. Dec. 27, 1733 at Rehoboth, James Goff, whose estate inv. was taken at Rehoboth May 25, 1742. Three children of the marriage. Mary m. 2) June 21, 1748 at Stoughton, Mass., Jonathan Willis with the resulting family, if any, difficult to trace.

• iv. Ann Ormsby, b. Sept. 5, 1714 at Rehoboth; no further confirmable record regarding her.
