Juanita Lavinghouse Adams, a lifelong resident of Mobile, died Monday night at an area hospital after a long illness. She was 88.

A retired licensed practical nurse, Mrs. Adams graduated from Murphy High School and Southwest State Technical Institute. She spent many years as a member and volunteer at Mobile's St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. At the time of her death, she was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Mobile.

She is survived by her daughter, Frances Elaine Ahmadi of Mobile; two sons, Milton Edward Adams of Charleston, S.C., and John Daniel Adams of Mobile; her caregivers, William H. "Jack" McCormick and Annie Knight, both of Mobile; one brother, George Guy Lavinghouse of Houston; two sisters, Betty Jean Lavinghouse Edwards and Dorothy Lee Lavinghouse McMichael, both of Mobile; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

A rosary will be said beginning at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Mobile. Visitation and a Mass of Christian Burial will follow at the church, with the Mass set to begin at 11 a.m.

Graveside services will precede burial in Catholic Cemetery. Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street is handling arrangements.
