Dr. Horace Andrew DeFord, Sr. born on 12/25/1927 in Dallas, TX died 03/30/11. He was a long term resident of Dallas and a member of the Walnut Hill Untied Methodist Church. Horace was a good, honorable and compassionate man who lived a wonderful life and touched the hearts of many. His legacy will live on. He graduated from Sunset High School in Dallas. He played football at the University of North Texas and received his BS and MS in 1951. His MD was received from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston in 1956. Horace was also a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He was an Intern at the City of Detroit Receiving Hospital, Detroit, Michigan, from 1956 to 1957 and served his residency in Psychiatry at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, TX from 1962 to 1965. Though he worked at numerous appointments, his most notable was over 50 years with the Veterans Medical Center. He was a member of the Dallas County Medical Society, Texas Medical Association, American Medical Association, North Texas Society of Psychiatric Physicians, Texas Psychiatric Association and American Psychiatric Association. His publications have been numerous as well as speaking engagements. Horace had a wonderful sense of humor and the kindest, most gentle smile. He served in the US Naval reserve in Grand Prairie NAS, TX from 1946 to 1951, the US Air Force, Kirtland AFB in Albuquerque, NM from 1957 to1959 as Division Surgeon 24th AD Defense Captain, and received an Air Force Commendation Metal.

Horace is survived by his beautiful wife, Jackie Joyce Thode DeFord of 56 wonderful years and had three children. James Henry DeFord, married to Michelle M Guigneauz, Anna Lee DeFord Pinzon, w, and Horace Andrew DeFord, Jr. and his wife Vicki Irick DeFord. He is also survived by his grandchildren Kenneth Frank DeFord and wife Laura Sanderson DeFord, Heather Ann DeFord Johnson, Crystal Joy Pinson, Andrew Lee DeFord and wife Crystal Low DeFord, Natalie Rose Pinzon and husband Jairo Villarreal, Maria Conchita Pinzon, David Enrique Pinzon, Andrew James Pinzon, Steven Daniel Pinzon, Amanda Beth Feltenberger Knobloch and husband Tommy Knobloch, Tiffani Jean Feltenberger and Clifton Feltenberger; great-grandchildren Adian Paul Villarreal, Jacilyn Nicole Johnson, Evan Chase DeFord, Alex Sebastian Villarreal, Mathew James DeFord, Alyssa Jewel DeFord, Gabriele Jolie Borrego, Noah Bailey Feltenberger, and Christian Gabriel Henderson.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00AM Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at Restland Memorial Park with viewing from 8:30AM to 9:30AM at Restland Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 11:00AM at the Walnut Hill United Methodist Church, 10066 Marsh Lane, Dallas, TX 75229. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.
