Walter J. Martin, 78, of Ottumwa, died on Thursday, March 31, 2011, at Sigourney Care Center in Sigourney.

Walter Junior Martin was born on Aug. 20, 1932, to Walter R. Martin and Cecil L. Yeoman Martin in Fremont. He proudly served in the U.S.Army during the Korean Conflict. Walter was united in marriage to Doris McNabb on Aug. 17, 1971, in Sigourney. Walter worked at the brick plant in Ottumwa for 25 years and then Hormel Corporation for almost 10 years. His hobby was horseshoes.

He is survived by his children, Jeffrey N. Martin(Carol)and Rodger D. Martin(Lori), both of Ottumwa, and Angela D. Smith(Steve)of Hedrick; brother, Clarance Martin of Las Vegas; sister, Dianna Dunham of Ankeny; grandchildren, Sara Couch, Andrew Martin(Danielle), Sgt. Rodger M. Martin(Audrey), Amy J. Piper(Nathaniel), Caitlin Hayes, Kyle Smith, and Kameron Smith; great-grandchildren, Trevor Couch, Faith Martin, and Graci Martin.

Walter was preceded in death by his wife, Doris; son, Scott Allen; parents; and sister, Haddibelle.

A memorial service will be from 12:30-1:30 pm Monday, April 4, at First Pentecostal Assembly of God Church in Ottumwa. Inurnment with military honors will be held at 3 pm at Garrett Cemetery in Delta.

A family luncheon will be held prior to the service from 11 am to noon at First Pentecostal Assmebly of God.
A memorial fund has been established for the family.
