William lived with his parents in Butler County until he was 8 years of age, moving with them to Benton County where he attended the common schools. At the age of 22 he was united in marriage to Miss Martha Buck, who preceded him in death. To this union was born three children, Leta, Homer and one child dying in infancy. In the spring of 1898 he was united in marriage to Miss Cornelia Thorne. To this union was born two children. One daughter, Ivey, and one son, John.

In 1908, he and his family moved to South Dakota locating near Mt. Vernon, where he continued his farming operations until the time of his death.

Mr. Davis has been in poor health since June 1st 1932, but not until December 15th was he forced to his bed. He has been in bed under the Doctor's care since that time and received all the attention and care that human and loving hands could give, but all efforts seemed in vain, and his spirit took its flight to his everlasting and eternal ebode [abode].

This kind and loving husband and father is survived by his wife, Mrs. William Davis of Mt. Vernon, two sons, and two daughters, John Davis of Lead, S. D., Ivey Christopher of Mt. Vernon, Mrs. Leta Flanneghan [Flanagan] of Timber Lake, Mr. Homer Davis Jr, of Ambia, Ind., one step son and one step daughter, Mr. Lloyd Thorne of Mitchell, Mrs. James Glass of Kennebec, two brothers and three sisters, Arron Davis and Homer Davis, Sr., of Ambia, Ind., Mrs. Myrtle Smith of Kankapee, Ill. [Kankakee, IL], Mrs. Flora Mitinger [Metzinger] of Onaka, S.D., Mrs. Opal Bryant of Redrick, Ill [Reddick, IL].

Besides the immediate relatives, he leaves many other relatives, and a host of friends. Thus, closes the chapter of a devoted husband and father, who was loved by those who knew him. Deep and sincere sympathy is extended to the bereaved wife and family.

Funeral services were held in the local M. E. Church of Mt. Vernon, Monday January 16th at 2:30 P.M., Rev. A. L. Walker officiating. Burial was made in the Mr. Vernon cemetery.
