SANFORD – Roger D. Gervais, 57 of 17 Ruth St, husband of Yvonne Martel Gervais, died Friday, December 11, 1981 at a Togus hospital after a lengthy illness. He was born in Springvale, son of Louis and Phielomene Ruel Gervais. A lifelong resident here, he was an Army Air corps veteran of World War II and a communicant of St. Ignatius Church. Prior to his retirement due to ill health, Mr. Gervais was a carpenter. He was a past commander of the American Legion and a member of the VFW and the 40&8 organization. He had been local parade chairman for many years, past chairman of the Fourth of July committee, past chairman of the Veterans Memorial Council of Sanford, and was an honorary member of the Maine State Department Sergeant-at-Arms of the American Legion. Besides his wife of Sanford, survivors include four sons, Tech Sgt Donald of Pease Air Force Base, NH, Robert of Columbus, MS, Raymond of Newbury Park, CA and David with the Air Force, Myrtle Beach SC; two daughters, Mrs. Jimmy (Rita) Farr of Sanford and Dorothy Gervais of Bangor; two brothers, Francis Gervais of Rochester NY and John Gervais of Acton; two sisters, Mrs. Lucian (Maria) Martel of Manchester NH and Mrs. Edgar (Delores) Wilde of San Jose, CA; and four grandchildren. Prayers will be said at 8am Monday at the LaFrance-Boisvert Funeral Home, 29 Winter St, followed by a funeral Mass at 9am at St. Ignatius church. Interment will be in the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Augusta.
