Dale was born on April 13, 1935, to Emory Bernard and Goldia Ethel (Province) McCalla in Pomona.
He married Twola Faye Alewine on Oct. 3, 1957, in Mexia, Texas. She preceded him in death Dec. 24, 1984.
Survivors include one son, Bernard McCalla of San Antonio; four daughters and one son-in-law, Feonia McCalla of Germany, Mary Dowdy of Hickory, Ky., Shirley Galvan of Carbondale and Nancy and Moe Johnson of Anna; one sister, Bernadine Doetch of Carbondale; his sweetheart, Anna Belle McCalla of Paulton; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He is also preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, John, Paul, Lee, Jim, David and Donald McCalla; and three sisters, Francis Clapps, Martha Nance and Elaine Jeter.
Dale proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1973. After retiring from the military, he became a custodian at the VA Medical Center in Marion and then at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. He was also a member of Full Gospel Tabernacle of Marion.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 5 in Full Gospel Tabernacle in Marion with the Rev. John Burnett officiating. Interment will be after the service in Oakland Cemetery in Carbondale. Visitation will also be from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at Full Gospel Tabernacle. Meredith Funeral Home of Carbondale is assisting the family with arrangements.
Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society and will be accepted by the funeral home.
