Dorothy Louise (Swanson) Addison, our mom and grandmother, age 90, passed away with peace in her bright blue eyes on Wednesday morning, the 30th of March 2011 at St. Elizabeth's Home in East Greenwich, Rhode Island, where she was cared for with great love and compassion by the staff during the last few years of her life. She was born on Valentine's Day 1921 to Arthur and Lillie (Miller) Swanson of Willimantic. Dorothy graduated from Windham High School in 1938 and attended the University of Connecticut. She lived in Bolton, Connecticut most of her life. She co-owned and operated Crestwood Products Corporation in East Hartford, Connecticut for many years. Dorothy loved the sight of the first flowers in the springtime. She loved the color blue and she loved to read. She understood the importance of our connection to nature and loved to garden and, in her later years, simply sit and watch the plants and animals outside. She will be remembered every time we hear the songbirds, every time we stick our hands in the soil to garden, and of course, every time we eat Swedish rolls. Most of all, Dorothy understood that family is the most important thing in life. She leaves behind her two children, Robin McAllister of Kingston, Rhode Island and her children Katie and Michael; and Todd Addison of Greenwich, Connecticut, his wife Kristin, and their children Lexi, and Nicholas. She is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law Nancy and Peter Mitchell of Vero Beach, Florida and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 6, at 11:00 am at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195), Willimantic followed by burial in New Willimantic Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Flowers are welcome or donations can be made to Save The Children.
