Mildred Pauline Eckel, 73, of Olney died Wednesday January 1, 1992 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, Ind.

Funeral services at Summers-Kistler Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Baker officiating. Burial in Crest Haven Cemetery.

Mrs. Eckel was born in Richland County September 25, 1918 the daughter of Fred and Hazel (Pitts) Arteberry. She married Elmer B. Eckel on April 1, 1939.

Mrs. Eckel worked for 21 years at the Richland County Courthouse in the County Clerk and County Treasurer's offices. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Olney. She was a member of the American Agriculture Movement of Illinois and Farmers Union. She was an avid quilter for many years.

Mrs. Eckel is survived by her husband, Elmer Eckel of Olney; one son, Keith Eckel and wife, Sharon of Olney; one sister, Palma Gill of Olney; mother, Hazel Arteberry of Olney; two grandchildren, Erin and Erica Eckel of Olney; one niece, Sandy Burgener of Olney and one great-niece, Nicole Woods of Olney.

Mrs. Eckel was preceded in death by her father, Fred Arteberry and one brother, Cyril Virgil Arteberry.
