Kathrin Nicole Mappin, 20, 295 N. 500 West, was surrounded by her loving family when she passed away at 1:55 p.m. Tuesday at Indiana University Clarion North, Carmel.

Katie was born in Logansport on May 13, 1990, to Bryan and Dawn M. (Wheadon) Mappin. Growing up she shared her childhood with two sisters, Brittany and Tonya, and a brother Levi. She is remembered for her many funny faces and wrestling with her sisters and brother, during those formative years.

Active in many realms both academically and socially at Rochester High School, Katie played the clarinet with the Zebras marching band, was a member of Manitous, Tri-Epsilon, German Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Key Club and played tennis for the Lady Zs. In May of 2008 Katie graduated from RHS. Some may remember her friendly smile and enthusiasm while serving her customers at Dick's Drive In for three summer seasons.

As a movie buff, Katie enjoyed classic movies. She owned the complete set of "Friends." Other favorites were "Phantom of the Opera" and Doris Day movies. More recently Brian introduced her to "Star Wars" and movies featuring Sly Stallone, of which she became a huge fan.

Katie enjoyed traveling and visiting new places, including trips to Chicago, and Cleveland, Ohio's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. She was looking forward to excursions to Williamsburg, France and Italy while garnering the opportunity to savor the local cuisine. Hitting the Vera Bradley outlet was also a special excursion planned for later this spring. To relax she listened to classic rock music and the songs of Bing Crosby, David Bowie and Pink Floyd. As an avid photographer, Katie's favorite subjects were friends and family.

Enjoying the quiet times, Katie took many walks with Brian on the IU campus or the B-Line Trail. She was a student of culinary arts, studying at Bloomington's Ivy Tech Community College. To gain experience she worked on the staff of IU's food services. She loved her mom's special green beans and chicken and noodles, and once attempted to duplicate Mom's Amish cream pie. During the holidays Katie and her mom collaborated on buckeyes. She loved chocolate, pearls, the Food Channel and the color purple. She cultivated a small herb garden and loved to cook organically. Shopping at Kohls in search of the best deals was a skill Katie learned from her mother.

Katie is lovingly remembered by her parents, Bryan and Dawn Mappin, Rochester; two sisters, Brittany Mappin, Merrillville, and Tonya Mappin, Rochester; brother Levi Mappin, Fulton; fiance Brian Piecuch, Bloomington; paternal grandparents, Gene and Linda Dyson, Logansport, and Wanda and Glen King, Kokomo; maternal grandparents, Sandy Wheadon, Twelve Mile, and Doyne Wheadon and wife Lana, Madisonville, Tenn.; and aunts, uncles and cousins also survive.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Douglas Mappin.

A celebration of the life of Miss Kathrin Nicole Mappin is at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Bethlehem United Methodist Church, Twelve Mile, with the Rev. Teri White officiating. Friends may visit with her family from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today in the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 W. 18th St., Rochester, and one hour prior to the service in the church. Interment is at Bethlehem Cemetery.
