Services are pending at West Funeral Home for Bertha Ethel Carleton, 92, 1207 S. Country Club Circle. She died Sunday in a local nursing home.
Born in the Indian Territory, she lived in what later became Oklahoma, Texas and New Mexico. She was a member of the Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and served in various organizations. Her late husband, Thomas Jefferson Carleton, was a Carlsbad area farmer who became a resident in the Pecos Valley in 1930.
Survivors include fours sons, Joe, Malaga, Bishop Alsie Carleton, Albuquerque, Woodrow, Las Vegas, Nev., T.J., Farmington; a daughter, Rachel Susen, Carlsbad; a brother, Dr. D.J. Wible, Houston, Texas; and seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Bertha Ethel Carleton, 92, were scheduled at 1:30 p.m. today in the First United Methodist Church with the Revs. Charles Crutchfield and James R. Drake, a retired Methodist minister, officiating. Burial was to follow in Sunset Gardens Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Francis Duren, Dr. Jay Irby, Owen Carleton, Jonathan Carleton, Billy Campsey and Denny Powers.
West Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
