Captain Jackie Beard suffered a fatal heart attack while teaching a live burn class for new firefighters with the Greensboro Fire Department. He was one of the most dedicated men to the fire service I have ever known. Jackie was a true friend to many. He served in the US Air Force at the rank of Sgt in Vietnam, was a member of the Deep River Volunteer Fire Department, and a farmer. At his funeral it was stated that "He Gave All" which was certainly true in all aspects of his life. He surely will be missed by many.
