Fred Johnson

Funeral services for Fred Johnson Sr., 70, Winchester, will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow at the Winchester Christian Church. Burial will be in the Effingham cemetery with Sawin & Dyer funeral home in charge of arrangements.
The body will lie in state at the church an hour before the services. Fleming, Jackson, Seever American Legion post No. 6 will conduct graveside services.
Mr. Johnson was born March 5,1893, at Overbrook, Kansas, a son of George Washington and Mary Agnes Gracie Johnson. He and Esther Hall were married April 7, 1923, in Atchison.
He was employed by the Philisbury Co. 15 years until he retired six years ago and moved to Winchester. Mr. Johnson was a member of the Winchester Christian Church. He served in the Army during World War I.
Surviving are his wife of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Kathryn Allen, Atchison, and Mrs. Virginia McLaughlin, Leavenworth: three sons, Fred Johnson Jr., Horton, Thomas Johnson, Kansas City, Missouri, and Clifton Johnson, in the Navy in Connecticut; two brothers, Roy Johnson, Salem Ore., and A.H. Johnson, Lamar, Missouri: two sisters, Bessie Rose, Harrisburg, Ore., and Bertha Johnson, Baldwin Park, Cal.; 20 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
