Alvin George Peterson, age 80, of Newell, Iowa passed away on Thursday, December 25, 2008 at the Newell Good Samaritan Center.

Funeral services for Mr. Peterson will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 27, 2008 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Newell. Burial will be in the Newell Cemetery. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell is in charge of the arrangements.

Visitation will be held at the church for one hour prior to service time.

Alvin was born on April 10, 1928, to George and Buelah (Anderson) Peterson at the family farm home, north of Storm Lake, Iowa. His education was in the country school—Scott Center and Rembrandt. He was born a farmer and remained a good farmer all his life.

On April 10, 1955, Alvin was united in marriage to Geneva Porath. She passed away in 1998.

Alvin was a faithful member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Newell. He was actively involved in the church, serving as Elder for many years. At the time of his death, Alvin was serving on the Board of Elders.

He was an avid Newell-Fonda sports supporter, following the various boys and girls teams during their seasons.

Alvin was a kind and faithful husband, neighbor and a good brother to his sister, Charlotte of Storm Lake, and his one niece, Patricia Johnson Kirby, who was the delight of his life.

Preceding Alvin in death are his parents; step-mother Linnea Peterson; his wife, Geneva and her parents, August and Tina Porath; brother-in-law Merritt Porath and sister-in-law Lurline; and nephew, Wendell Johnson.

Left to cherish his memory are his sister Charlotte Ann Johnson of Storm Lake; his niece, Patricia Johnson Kirby and her husband, Mark, of Denison; sister-in-law Grace Porath of Pocahontas; nieces, nephews and many cousins; special friends, Rick and Pam Sievers and family of Newell and Rusty and Karen Corderman and family of Newell; as well as many friends.
