Sterling, May 22 - A.T. Scovill, 70, 1111 7th Avenue, head of the Scovill Business School of Sterling, died at 7:30pm Monday at Sterling Public Hospital where he had been a patient since May 13th.
Mr. Scovill, while taking pictures May 12 at the Walnut School, slipped and fell down two steps. He suffered a punctured intestine and peritonitis set in, resulting in his death.
Mr. Scovill, who had been a handwriting expert for the last 15 years, was a member of the war labor board at Chicago. He was a member of Rotary club and the Fourth Street Methodist Church and held office in the National Commercial Business College Association.
Born March 7, 1875, in Cleveland, son of Homer and Louise Scovill, he came to Sterling in 1905 and became associated with the Brown Business College. Later he bought out the college which is known now as the Scovill Business School. On July 17, 1901, he married E. Josephine Waters in Dixon.
Besides his widow, he is survived by two sons, Myron, St. Paul, Minn., and Harold H., Oakland, Cal.; two daughters, Evaline, at home, and Mrs. George Ludwig, Long Beach, Cal. and six grandchildren. One son, Wilfred, died August 10, 1943, and a sister also died previously.
Services will be held at 2:30pm Friday at the Woods funeral home. The Rev. A. J. Tavenner, pastor of the Fourth Street Methodist Church, will officiate, and burial will be in Oak Knoll Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home.
