"In 1820 this pensioner said he was 67, and his wife 66 years old. He was a common laborer and owed $55.49, but his property was worth $73.32. He served three years in Capt. Haines' company, Col. Wiggleworth's regiment, Mass. Line, and had an honorable discharge. Of the battle of Monmouth he often said that he 'never was so glad to see the backs of any men as he was those of the British when they turned to run.'"
