ARTHUR — Edward W. "Bill" Agge, 91, Arthur, passed away at 2:50 p.m. Monday (March 28, 2011) at the Heartland Health Care Center, Normal.
Graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Arthur Cemetery, Arthur. Military graveside rites will be accorded. The Rev. Thomas Wirsing will officiate. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at the Shrader Funeral Home, Arthur.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Arthur Lions Club.
Mr. Agge was born March 2, 1920, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of George H. and Hilka Niederhauser Agge. He married Catherine L. Powell on Oct. 20, 1946, near Arthur. She preceded him in death on Jan. 4, 2007.
Bill is survived by two sons, Ronald (Marietta) Agge, Bloomington, and Richard (Lisa) Agge, Sullivan; two sisters, June Traxler, Arthur, and Ruth (Glenn) Herz, Portland, Ore.; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
Mr. Agge served from 1942 until 1946 in the U.S. Army. He served as an amphibian tank commander. He enjoyed making whirly gigs and other woodworking projects.
He liked flowers, dogs, hunting mushrooms and collecting Indian relics. Bill worked at Progress Industries and FS for many years. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and fisherman.
