Edna was the daughter of James P. and Mary Jane (Henle) Farley. After high school, Edna attended a number of colleges before her fifteen year career as a teacher. She taught at a number of schools, including Rainy Vale school.

Later, Edna returned to college and became an occupational therapist. She worked at the Easter Seal School in Des Moines, IA; the Crippled Children's School in Sioux Falls, SD; and, the State Hospital in Yankton, SD. Edna retired in 1976 and returned to Beresford, SD. She worked part time at Bethesda Nursing Home and part time caring for her mother.

Edna spent a number of years sharing a home with her sister, Charlotte. Edna's interests included the family history. Her sister, Charlotte, reported that Edna was in the process of writing a paper on the family history when she became too ill to finish it.
