Laura Lee Elbert Smith, 85, Depauw, died Tuesday, March 29, 2011, at her home near Frenchtown.
Born Oct. 15, 1925, in Dogwood, she was the daughter of the late Curtie Crecelius Elbert and Sidney Elbert Sr.
She was a 1944 graduate of Corydon High School, a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church and St. Rita's Altar Society in Frenchtown, co-founder, with her husband, of Fred Smith Store Fixtures Inc. in 1963 and served as the company's president since 1979, after her husband's death.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Smith; a grandson, Jeremy Hardin; a brother, Sidney Elbert Jr.; and a sister, Ann Eckart.
Survivors include four daughters, Suetta Kay Tingler of Corydon, Paula Hardin of Jeffersonville, Joy Yeager of Mauckport and Jane Carr of Depauw; a son, Steve Smith of Corydon; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Friday, April 1, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday, April 2, from 8 to 9:30 a.m. at Swarens Funeral Home in Ramsey.
Funeral Mass: Saturday, April 2, at 10 a.m. at St. Bernard Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery.
Officiant: Father John Fink.
The family suggests memorial gifts to the American Cancer Society or to St. Rita's Altar Society, in care of St. Bernard Catholic Church.
