You were a fun and wonderful great grandmother. Short in height, you weren't much taller than we were. When you came for visits it was always exciting to see you and grandpa pull up to our house. Grandpa was always a gentleman and would open the door for you. As soon as you were out of the car, you would always say to grandpa in your adorable Dutch accent, "Oh grandpa, give the kids a dime".

When we would go to your house to visit, you were the perfect hostess. If my dad would bring us over "unannounced" for a visit to his grandma and grandpa's house, you wouldn't let us leave until you made sure you had fed us. You would on the spot, go in and make a cake, even when my dad told you it wasn't necessary. You always made us feel loved and wanted. You and grandpa had a special way about you that made us happy to be with you.

Here we are, many years later, It's now 2015, and I can still see your beautiful face and feel your love for me. Rest in peace, I love you.

For information sake, Jacob and Catharina had a son named Jacob Albertus Vandersteen III. He was born Oct 16 1909 in Dordrecht, Zuid Holland, Netherlands. He died Nov 8 1910 in Dordrecht, Zuid Holland, Netherlands and was buried in the cemetery there. My dad told me, and it was confirmed by Uncle Mart, (Martinus Vandersteen, Jacob's younger brother)that Jacob died when his mother took him out for a walk. As they were walking, a large dog got up to the carriage, looked at Jacob and barked at him. He was so frightened by the dog, he started to cry. He cried so hard he held his breath like infants and young children do. However, he was not able to "get his breath" back and he couldn't start breathing again. Because of this he died. Sad story for this little boy.
