Also preceding her is her husband of 53 years, Joe Bruce Joyner; and beloved sister, Vi Kissell.
One of the great lessons in my life was watching the sisterly bond between Bill and Vi throughout their entire lives though separated by many miles and age limits up until their deaths. Growing up, I was in the home a great deal and night time would never come without a short devotional reading and prayer before bedtime. Known by the name, Bill, to all who knew her, she was of Baptist faith, attending Woodmont Baptist Church faithfully.
Val Dean Maddox married Joe Bruce Joyner on November 26, 1942 in Huntingdon, Tennessee with J. W. Bass officiating.
After graduating from high school Bill attended Bethel College in Carroll County. Family was always important to Bill. When she went to work after finishing college, she helped my mom with finances so that she, too, could go to college. After marriage, she and Bruce soon moved to Nashville where they spent the remainder of their married life together, rearing two girls, Paula and Ann. Other survivors are 4 granddaughters and 8 great-grandchildren. She never forgot her West Tennessee roots nor the large extended family of her mother.
The service is to be held on Friday, May 1, 2015 at 10:00 am at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home, Nashville, TN. Visitation with family will be one hour prior to the service, beginning at 9:00 am. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Huntingdon alongside her husband with nephews Rick Kissell and Larry Kissell, officiating.
