Jared Scofield and his family really went through rough times. He was left out of his father's will because he married a Catholic girl. He moved with his family to Ohio near Deerfield in 1795. His first farm was in the low lands along a river, and Malaria plagued the family so often that they were forced to move to higher ground. The next farm was between Deerfield and Mason in Warren County.
