He was also the father of Edward Jr., Peter and Joe Helekunihi from a previous marriage. The family name Helekunihi was changed from Helekunihi to Duke. He was the son of Elia Helekunihi and Abigail Kahalenoe. Elia was a magistrate in Maui. Eward Sr. was a musician and taught all of his kids how to play musical instruments.
