16-year-old Salina girl dies in two-car accident MARION - A 16-year-old Salina girl was killed Tuesday night in a two-car accident west of Marion. Michelle R. Giroux, 913 S. Fourth, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, which occurred about 10:15 p.m. Tuesday.
She would have been a junior at Sacred Heart High School this fall.
Giroux's younger sister, Kristin A., 14, a passenger in the car, was treated at St. Luke's Hospital in Marion. Neither was wearing their seat belts, the Kansas Highway Patrol said.
The driver of the second vehicle Melissa J. Carter, 19, Council Grove, was treated at St. Luke's. Carter's sister, Makay J. Carter, 13, was taken to St. Luke's and later transferred to St. Francis Regional Medical Center, Wichita.
The accident occurred at the intersection of U.S. 56 and K-256, about a half mile west of Marion. The patrol said Carter's car was eastbound on U.S. 56 and Giroux was going north on K-256.
The patrol said Giroux failed to stop at a stop sign and apparently didn't see the Carter vehicle coming.
The cars collided and both ended up in a ditch.
