Carl A. Babcock, 79, of Valparaiso, passed away on Thursday, January 30, 1997 at Porter Memorial Hospital.

He was born January 14, 1918 in Portage Twp., the son of Loyal and Lillian (Danielson) Babcock.

On April 25, 1943 in Valparaiso he married Mary Frances Bloemen who survives in Valparaiso. Also surviving are a daughter, Donna Jean Grether of Lake Bruce, Indiana; a granddaughter, Kimberly S. Grether of Lake Bruce, IN.; a great grandson, James Ray Upchurch of Lake Bruce; a brother, Harold D. (Bernice) Babcock of Hobart and a sister, Loretta Rankin of Portage. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Wesley.

He was a graduate of Liberty Twp. School, Lewis Aeronautical School, Lockport, Illinos, a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Pipefitters Union Local 597, Christian Men's Fellowship and WWII member of the U.S. Army Air Corps.

Funeral services will be Saturday, February 1, 1997 at 10:30 a.m. at First Christian Church, 1507 E. Glendale Blvd., Rev. David Kovalow-St. John and Joyce Knauff officiating. Burial in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, January 31st at the church from 3 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Bartholomew Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. 219-462-4102.
