John Daniel Doerr was born in Prussia in 1840. Daniel married Anna Caroline Jesse in the Province of Prozen, Prussia, in 1867. The couple moved to the United States that year and Daniel became a naturalized citizen on April 6th, 1868. The couple first settled in Atchison, Kansas, and sixteen years later became established in the Barnes, Kansas, area. The couple were members of the Lutheran church. Daniel was a successful farmer and he and Caroline had thirteen children. He lost his son, John, who was killed in action in France during World War I.

Johann Doerr Sr. married Anna Jesse on Feb. 6, 1867 in Schokken, Posen, Prussia. 13 children were born to Johann and Anna Doerr. Son, Carl August Doerr was born 9/1/1877 in Atchison County, Kansas and died 8/29/1878 in Atchison County, Kansas.
