MILTON-FREEWATER - The funeral service for former Pendleton resident Maxine Stevenson of Milton-Freewater will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bishop Funeral Chapel in Pendleton. Interment will be in Olney Cemetery in Pendleton.
She died Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003, at St. Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla. She was born Dec. 12, 1914, to to Mida (Findley) and Roy McCone in Fairview, Mont.
She attended school in Montana. On Sept. 14, 1935, she married Robbin "Bob" Stevenson in Glendive, Mont., to whom she stayed devoted until his death 60 years later. She worked in the JC Penny Company baby section for many years, retiring in 1976.
She was a member of St. Anthony's sewing auxiliary, where she regularly contributed embroidered pillows and crocheted hand towels. She enjoyed traveling, visiting with family and friends and help others when ever possible. She was a Cub Scout leader, math tutor and active member of the Christian Church when her children were young.
She is survived by her sons Robert of Tulare, Calif., Ronald of Pendleton, four grandchildren and numerous extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her husband and a brother, Barney McCone.
