Obituary from The Williams News, Thursday, November 9, 1939, Williams, Arizona.

Death Claims Mary Virginia Benham Funeral services for Mary Virginia Benham, twenty-eight year old wife of Henry Benham, who passed away at a local hospital shortly after noon Friday, were held at three o'clock Sunday afternoon from St. John's church, of which the young mother was a member. Burial was in the beautiful Odd Fellows-Knights of Pythias cemetery. Beautiful floral pieces were banked high at each end of the casket and large baskets of flowers formed a line along the side as a mark of the high esteem in which Mrs. Benham was held by all who knew her. The church was filled to capacity with friends, many having come from Winslow to pay their last respects, as the Rev. T. Cecil Harris, vicar of the church, conducted the services. Opening the service, a double mixed quartet, the Mesdames C. W. Melick, Ivan T. Wilson, Aileen Klass, R. L. Fry and Jimmy King and the Messrs A. F. Bliss, John Miller, C. W. Melick, and the Rev. K. Morgan Edwards, sang, "In The Hour of Trial", and "Softly Now The Light of Day," and during the service, Mr. Bliss sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere," with the double quartet joining in the chorus. Mrs. W. C. Rittenhouse was at the organ. Eddie Hoffmeyer, Jerry Duffield, J. R. Clark, Bub Perkins, Leslie Perkins and Leo Black. Mrs. Benham came up from Winslow, where the family has resided for the past three years, the latter part of last week and entered the hospital for an operation. Following the operation, her condition was all that could be desired until on Thursday of last week when she suffered a set-back and Mr. Benham was called from Winslow and together with his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Benham, was at the bedside when death came. Mary Virginia Strawn was born July 26, 1911 at Price, Utah. She spent a few of her childhood years in New York state and then moved with her parents to Lewisburg, Oregon, where she grew to womanhood and received her education. It was while attending Oregon State college at Corvallis, Oregon, that she met Mr. Benham, whom she married on July 3, 1934, shortly after their graduation. A few months later they returned to Mr. Benham's home at Williams, where they lived until 1936 when they moved to Winslow. Mrs. Benham is survived by her husband, Henry Benham and a daughter, Mary Frances, of Winslow and her father, W. B. Strawn and a sister and brother of Lewisburg, Oregon. Mrs. S. E. Wood, sister of Mrs. H. L. Benham, came from Los Angeles, California, and Mrs. Jimmy Benham, came from Phoenix for the funeral.
