John J. McCarthy of 210 Hubbell Ave died Jan. 1st in St. Joseph's Hospital. He had been a special mail clerk at the post office for 43 years until his retirement on Jan. 1st, 1943. He is survived by two sons, the Rev. Jeremiah McCarthy and James D. McCarthy; by three daughters, Miss Ellen McCarthy, Mrs. Genevieve Callageo(?), and Mrs. Leon Wittman; by three brothers, Jeremiah, Thomas, and Charles McCarthy; and by a sister, Miss Margaret McCarthy. Funeral services were at Most Holy Rosary Church, where his son,the Rev. Jeremiah McCarthy celebrated a solemn high mass of requiem, assisted by his nephew, the Rev. Francis McCarthy of St. James Church in Endicott as deacon.
