Bernice 'Be' (Smith) Alford of Bend died Friday of natural causes. She was 76. Mrs. Alford was born Dec. 15, 1924, in Stockton, Missouri. She moved to Bend when she was a toddler and graduated from Bend High School. She married Glenn Alford March 11, 1944, at Camp Abbott in Sunriver. He died in October 1983. Mrs. Alford worked as a sales clerk at JC Penny for 39 years and retired in 1987. She was involved with the American Red Cross Blood Mobile and was affiliated with the First United Methodist Church of Bend. She was part of United Methodist Women as local secretary and held district and conference offices; a member of the ERBELE and Geathouse Circles and a lay representative to the annual conference. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Viewing will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday at Niswonger, Reynolds & Tabor Funeral Home. A funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church of Bend and a graveside service will follow immediately after at Greenwood Cemetery.
