George was the son of Samuel Sprankle & Rebecca Wood.

He married Margaret Davis on 16 Feb 1864 at Alexandria, Huntingdon Co., PA.

They had six children: Emma Grace (Neff); John Davis; Florence May (Neff); Sallie K.; Samuel Warren "Warren"; & Wilbur Allen.

George served during the Civil War as a Private, Company C, 125th PA Infantry. He enlisted 8 Aug 1862 and was discharged 18 May 1863.
